Experts from the Meteorological Synthesizing Centre – East (MSC-E), Isabel Garcia Arevalo and Jan Gačnik, participated in the international conference European Geophysical Union General Assembly 2025 (EGU2025), held in Vienna, Austria, from 28 April to 3 May. The EGU General Assembly, which takes place annually, is the largest gathering of experts in the geophysical sciences in Europe. MSC-E personnel contributed to the event with oral presentations and posters as part of the special session Mercury (Hg) biogeochemical cycling across environmental compartments.
The presentations generated significant discussions and interest among Hg experts. The feedback received from the scientific community provided valuable input and ideas for future MSC-E work on atmospheric mercury. In addition, the conference offered numerous networking opportunities with specialists in meteorological modelling, atmospheric pollution modelling, and data science, fostering collaborations with international groups working on topics relevant to the MSC-E workplan.
Short abstracts of the presentations are available below:
- Insights from Atmospheric Mercury Isotopes: Analytical Considerations
- Comparison of Calibration Approaches for Mercury in Emissions and Ambient Air
- Using enriched stable isotopes to elucidate marine phytoplankton cellular uptake mechanisms and bioavailability of MMHg bound to different natural DOM composition
