The fifth Annual Meeting of the Mediterranean Geosciences Union (MedGU) was held in Athens, Greece, from 10 to 12 November 2025. MedGU aims to bring together and represent the Mediterranean geoscience community working across Earth, planetary, and space sciences. Its mission is to strengthen the role of Earth sciences in policy-making, support the development of solutions to protect the natural environment, and promote more sustainable societies across the Mediterranean region. MedGU also provides opportunities for Mediterranean geoscientists to engage in interdisciplinary and collaborative research.

A researcher from the Meteorological Synthesizing Centre – East (MSC-E), Viktoria Koncz, contributed to MedGU-25 with a presentation entitled “Effect of Dust Resuspension on Lead Pollution in the Mediterranean Region”. The talk highlighted recent MSC-E research on heavy metal pollution and its interaction with intense dust events. The topic generated considerable interest within the scientific community and stimulated an active discussion. Participation in the conference also offered numerous networking opportunities with researchers in geochemistry, hydrology, meteorology, atmospheric sciences, and geoinformatics.
